Ending our African Safari in Nairobi, Kenya

Day 29

After a night reminiscing about our time in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, we woke for an early breakfast at the Ndoro Lodge. It was a quiet morning at the table assumably because it was the last day for most of us or maybe it was just too early. We all made sandwiches for lunch during the drive because we anticipated traffic as we drove back through Arusha and when we hit Nairobi. Will again felt sick when he woke up which made me worried for the long day.

As expected, Arusha was slow going but we made it through town and headed north as the sun began to heat up the day. Will looked uncomfortable during Continue reading

Ballooning over the Serengeti, Tanzania

imageSara’s cousin traveled with us on our African Safari and we convinced her to detail her hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti:

FullSizeRender68While traveling through the Serengeti, there is an abundance of animals to view and observe and it is a true tangible ecosystem that is named as one of the 10 natural travel wonders of the world. There is a large amount of diverse animals and habitats that foster the largest terrestrial mammal migration and a playground for people to witness amazing experiences of animal behavior. I was fortunate enough to be able to not just experience the Serengeti from a car and camping in the middle of the Serengeti, but I was able to experience this lush wildlife from the air. Hippos Outside Lady’s Door in Zambia

imageSara’s mom joined us on our African Safari and we convinced her to write down some of her thoughts about South Luangwa:

Across the river we could spy on over nineteen hippos, called a raft of hippos, as they spent their day splashing in the water or lying on the river’s muddy bank. They do their feeding at night away from the water often entering the camp looking for sweet grasses. Not too far away from the raft of hippos, we could see large Continue reading

The Smoke that Thunders in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

Day 7

FullSizeRender4 The action packed day continued and we hit the road after a game drive and breakfast in Chobe National Park. We quickly reached the Zimbabwe border. Will and I got in line to obtain a combined visa for both Zimbabwe and Zambia. The joint visa would save us money and possibly time at the next border. The boarder officers informed us that the computer for processing the joint visas was down so they could only process the Zimbabwe – oh well. We left our passports and money then waited. About 10 minutes later, the officers told our tour guides they had the computer back up and running. We gave them the additional $20 USD fee and the joint visa was issued about 15 minutes later. Hello Africa!

About an hour later, we arrived to the town of Victoria Falls. Both Jojo and Nash (our tour guides) are from the area so they had lots of Continue reading
